Seeking a low cost mail server service

$

0

Setting up and managing a mail server is a more work than I care to do. Thus, I was quite pleased to find mxRoute - the pricing for their service is very reasonable. However, there have been more than a few service outages, including a multi-hour one when I has half way around the world from home on a business trip and needing the service to be working. My comment to the support desk was somewhat heated, and the owner/operator (who is somewhat thin-skinned) is cancelling my account.

So, I am looking for a replacement. We need two 'real' email accounts, about a dozen or so aliases, POP3 support, IMAP support, user configurable anti-spam (aside: mxRoute's settings are rather draconian and I know that valid emails are not getting through) and webmail (preferably Horde). Most importantly - we need a service that does not get caught by spam filters regularly, which means that the majority of the low-cost, shared hosting providers are out.

Can you offer some recommendations? Thanks.

Cociu/HostSolutions.ro Review?

What's the consensus on Cociu's services and HostSolutions.ro?

It always particularly struck me as a host one stop short of deadpooling with what I can only assume are unsustainable offers. As well, the host seems to be really slow to respond to tickets.

On the other hand, everyone on this forum seems to love these offers, especially since they allow torrenting and seedboxes.

Shared Hosting Recommendations?

I've spent a lot of time figuring out who the reputable VPS sellers are, but I now find my days of shared hosting returning for a project. My only experience with shared hosting was with Hostagator when I started in 2011. I know BuyVM has a shared hosting product that I'll purchase. But who else here has something good? Resources and services etc.

I have a Moodle instance installed on HostMyBytes, and since they are closing their VPS service, I need an inexpensive solution to host Moodle. I tried installing on DreamHost, but couldn't get it to work.

Hello, i'm a Game Developer, YouTuber (550subs) and Website Hoster (shared hosting) from Finland. I have made multiple mobile games, and one PC game. Im currently developing a big WW2 multiplayer game for PC, but the problem is that i would need a vps for my servers.

What would i want? - Linux VPS -  1-2GB RAM [More is better, but this is the minium!] -  Semi-good CPU [4cores] -  Atleast 100GB storage [SSD or HDD, doesn't matter currently.] -  Good internet speeds. - Europe - Open Ports - 1 / 2 IPv4's

What can i offer to you? -  Your advertises for my shared hosting websites. -  Your link for my youtube videos description. -  Your logo and name for the game splashscreen (before you start the game) -  Other? You can always ask! :)

If somebody could help me out, please contact me here or "rockis@rockishosting.cf"

130GB temporary storage for VPS rebuild (~24h)

As the title says, I need around 130GB of storage for 24 hours (most likely less) - needs to be SCP-accessible and EU-based.

Ideally gratis, but willing to pay a couple of euros/dollars as long as it's less than the cost of shoving the data in S3.

Getting Rid of VortexNode Dedi (E3 1240v3/16gb/1TBhdd/NY) @ $23/mo

I'm letting go of a dedicated server that I have with VortexNode. I was using the server for awhile for game servers, but the network and CPUs are no longer able to keep up with my needs. I picked this server up during a sale so it is pretty cheap for the specs and if someone has a use for it, they are welcome to make an offer.

The specs are:

E3-1240v3
16GB RAM
1x1TB SATA HDD
10 TB Bandwidth
1 Gbps Port Speed
5 IPv4 Addresses
$22.72/month (recurring)
Buffalo, NY (ColoCrossing)

Benchmarks:
Geekbench: http://browser.geekbench.com/geekbench3/8230065
bench.sh: https://pastebin.com/7AedaZta

I made sure with VN support that the server can be transferred and there doesn't seem to be any transfer fee. If for some reason they do have a fee to transfer the server to you, it will be up to you to pay that fee. Will help if you already have an account with them, or if not you may be subject to an initial fraud check. Again, it's up to you to get your account created on their end before the transfer is made.
Proof of discussion w/ VN support: http://i.imgur.com/AJt8Sra.png.

Best offer takes it. Payment will be made via PayPal or Bitcoin, your choice. The next bill for the server is due on May 25th. I'll complete the transfer on Saturday, May 20th (need to migrate some things to my new box this week). If nobody wants it, I'll just let it expire.

Cloudron

So I happened across this thing, not sure if someone posted it here or I saw it elsewhere, but I think a lot of people here would really like it. Check this out:

https://cloudron.io

Free and self-hosted. Complete interface for easily installing a number of desirable apps on your server.

What I found particularly cool was that using DO (they may support this with other providers too), it asked for two things after installation. Domain name and API key. Apparently it will install apps to a subdomain for you and create it in the DO DNS via API.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool and wanted to share it with you guys. I've seen a lot of talk around here about Webuzo which I never really got into, so this seems like right up the alley of someone who uses that.

Yet another hostsolutions.ro review.

$

I purchased a couple of 1Tb storage boxes from this hostsolutions.ro during the easter sales. As it was mentioned as "preorder", the price is incredibly low and there were multiple promises about network upgrades and fixing performance issues i was very patient, but almost a mounth have passed since the date of purchase so here are my thoughts so far:

  • "+" Low price
  • "-" Old kernel, only old OS templates available.
  • "-" Openvz, with all its regular drawbacks, and with very inconvinient default configuration. Even to use firewall properly you have to create support tickets. Also simfs is used.
  • "-" At best mediocre network performance, even after all the upgrades mentioned. Never got more than ~50-70mbit, and i tried from few different locations/servers both in US and in europe.
  • "-" Very, very low storage performance. Low to the point when reading / directory listing may take minutes. This may also affect my expirience with network speed as i did not try writing to /dev/null.

I tried to use this boxes for backups, uploading daily ~500M archives and weekly ~20Gb ones. This did not work at all. Uploading 500M often takes few hours, and uploading 20Gb usually fails since the script doing it assumes that it will be complete before next execution, which does not happen.

Then i tried using them to store things which do not change that often so that low performance is less of an issue, but it failed too, because it is literally impossible to upload ~100-200Gb pieces, upload was going for ~3 days and then the node was rebooted. Also with such speed i fear that if i need something stored there i will spend month trying to download it, which is unacceptable for me.

One more interesting thing i noticed - deleting files is incredibly slow and it seems like it causes issues for whole node. As both of my VM-s are on the same node i can clearly see it. Deleting ~20Gb file takes few minutes, and during this time both VM-s become completely unresponsive (and by unresponsive i mean that i cannot even get directory listing or process list).

Overall i'd say this boxes turnend out completely useless to me, i suppose that running seedbox will work to a certain degree, but i do not need that.

What made me post this? Today i got another message about failed backup, logged in to one of VM-s, and i am seeing this:

[root@vps8 ~]# time df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/simfs 1.0T 21G 1004G 3% /
none 512M 4.0K 512M 1% /dev
none 512M 0 512M 0% /dev/shm

real 0m26.923s
user 0m0.002s
sys 0m0.009s
[root@vps8 ~]# time ls
list

real 1m29.420s
user 0m0.001s
sys 0m0.015s

At this point i am done with trying to use this VM-s, because i need working and reasonably fast backups, and here i cannot be sure that even if it is uploaded i can download it later in reasonable time if i need. Definitely not going to renew this ones, will just let them idle&expire, and would not advice buying them to anyone, just not worth the time, even with incredibly low price.

Hello, I am wandering if anyone agrees with this. I was thinking in putting together a free host with some members of this site. It will NOT be like some hostinger shit. It will be based on manual approval, and a good reason for a account. I was wandering if anyone would like to discuss this further? I'm looking for people with spare servers, the more the merrier. https://discord.gg/7tGCS53
